Listing Guideline

Getting Started

Step 1

Decide if you are going to list your item as a Classified Ad, Bidding Auction or "Buy Now" Auction. Determine how you will accept payment. If you do not have a PayPal account, you may want to establish one.

Step 2

Register with Main Street Fair. When you enter your zip, a list of schools will appear so you can choose which one you want Main Street Fair to donate to.

Step 3

Once registered, go to My Account--the hub of all your Main Street Fair transactions.

  • Click on Create New Listing and select Classified Format or Auction Format. From the Auction format, you will choose if you want to sell via Buy Now or a bidding auction.

Auction Guidelines

Step 1

Select the category or subcategory for your listing.

Step 2

Insert the duration you want to run your ad, title of the item and a description.

Step 3

Insert if you want this to be a Standard Auction, meaning this is a listing for a separate item of the same price, or a Dutch Auction, where you have several items. Please see Dutch Auction information below.

Step 4

Set the minimum starting bid, or check "Buy Now" and set a price to sell your item without the bidding process.

Step 5

Set a reserve price - the lowest price you will accept. If no bids match or exceed your reserve price, you are not required to sell.

Step 6

Choose the payment options you are willing to accept.

Step 7

Insert contact information. Your city is important so potential buyers may search for items using our zip proximity feature. They may also want to email you with questions regarding your item. Some establish an email address exclusively for online shopping and selling purposes.

Step 8

Upload low-resolution 72 DPI jpg photos.

Step 9

Review and approve listing information.

Step 10

Enter credit card number to cover any listing fees. Your information is secured by COMODO SECURED. The COMODO logo and a list of Final Selling Fees is on the final checkout page. The site also has Fraud Protection services provided by Authorize.net.

Definition of a Dutch Auction

In a Dutch Auction the seller is auctioning two or more of an identical item. Unlike a standard auction, a Dutch Auction may have more than one winning bidder.

Process: Each bidder bids on all or some of the auctioned items, indicating the price the buyer is willing to pay for each. Bids are made in increments of $1 or more. At the auction's end, all winning bidders will pay the same price for each of their items, which is the lowest qualifying (successful) bid. If there are more successful bids than items, priority goes to the bidders who submitted their bids first. To win against another bidder, a bid must simply have a higher total bid price per item than the other bids, regardless of the number of items bid on.

Example:
A seller lists a Dutch Auction with five identical items.

Bidder "A" places a bid for two items at $20 each.

Bidder "B" places a bid for four items at $21 each.

Outcome:

Bidder "A" wins one item at $20.

Bidder "B" wins four items at $21 each.

Bidder A is awarded only one item because bidder B bid a higher amount. Bidder A now has the right to refuse the purchase of this partial order.
